New Stretch Prius Limousine
Why not? That’s the two words Toyota asks every day. And, today it has become the second largest auto maker in the world. In fact it is very close to stealing the number one position from General Motors.
The oil crisis in 1973 provided the spring board for makers of small, high quality vehicles like Toyota to capture a large slice of the lucrative North American market. The rest is history. Today, with concern about pollution and global warming, Toyota is one of the largest companies to push hybrid vehicles in the market and the first to commercially mass-produce and sell such vehicles. With its Hybrid-Drive technology, the Toyota Prius is setting motoring benchmarks, like exceptional fuel economy of just 4.4 litres per 100km.
Strange as it may seem, while there are a whole bunch of individuals making cars smaller and more economical etc. there are others intent on making the smaller cars bigger. In fact, most people looking to modify their Prius do so in order to extract even more fuel economy from the world's most popular hybrid. And, undoubtedly there aren't a whole lot of mechanically inclined Prius owners thinking stretch limo.
In what has to be one of the weirdest looking things to come out of Canada, one Canadian did. This enterprising Canuck has taken two Priuses welded them together, and made either what has to be the greenest limo in the world or the most gas-guzzling Prius. The custom 10-seater limousine was hacked at the middle, re-formed and re-stuffed, and welded back together.
It is yet to be confirmed whether the regenerative-braking on the Prius limousine is used to power a mini bar fridge. As it has seating capacity for up to ten people it could be used as a hire limo and specifically targeted at customer who colloquially are known as ‘greenies’.
The Toyota Prius has sold more than all other hybrids combined. The Prius has become somewhat of a statement car for celebrities who publicly want to proclaim there concern for the planet. Whether the Prius limo takes off as an environmentally friendly stretch limo alternative, remains to be seen.
